I stumbled across a cheap Alien Quadrology boxed set while killing some time in a bookstore the other day. Very bare bones, but it does include the director’s cut versions of the movies, and what the heck, any movie fan worthy of their salt needs to have the Alien collection on their shelf. (At least the first 2. Alien 3 was well, kind of dumb, Alien 4 was just plain stupid.)
Anyway, I re-watched about half of the original Alien last night and there were a lot of restored scenes which made it pretty cool. It’s funny that I can spot the additional footage even though I haven’t seen Alien for years…maybe a movie like that just gets burned into your brain. Looking forward to finishing it off tonight and seeing that scene were Ripley stumbles across Dallas glued to a wall with a baby alien about to pop out of his chest so she flames him. (Sorry about the run-on sentence…I haven’t had my coffee yet.)

The second Aliens movie ( Appropriately named Aliens ) is perhaps my all time favorite movie, closely followed by Raiders of the Lost Ark. I agree, the third Aliens movie was boring, and the fourth had some charm but fell into the realm of “No freaking way” very quickly. Ron Perlman was cool, tho. The restored footage in Aliens explained soo much and completed the movie in my eyes, especially the remote gun sequence.
Speaking of Ron Perlman, have you seen “City of Lost Children”?
Yes, it was a surreal experience. Oddest movie I have seen in a looong time, but charming.
I also love the first two Alien-Movies! “Alien” is more like a Thriller, while “Aliens” is an “Action-Rollercoaster”.
Unfortunately 20th CentFox didn’t let Fincher realize the original Script for Alien3. It would have been an awesome Movie!
Greetings from an austrian Alien-Fan.
I did like the nihilistic, oppressive atmosphere of Aliens 3. In the first 2 Alien films the people trying to escape at least (thought) they had a chance, but in Aliens 3 they were totally screwed and they knew it…Nobody gets out of here alive…
Heh, all I remember of Aliens 3 was the cast buzz cut their hair because of lice or mites or something, and it was all I could seem to focus on.
Yeah, Sigourney Weaver had to shave her locks for that one. Haven’t seen too much of her lately.
Yeah, last thing I saw Sigourney Weaver in, was the Village, which was okay I guess. As far as Alien 3 goes, I hear that if you watch the director’s cut of that movie, it’s almost like watching an entirely different movie. I haven’t tried it yet, it’s a bit far down on my netflix queue.
OK, thanks for the hint about Aliens 3, I’ll check the DVD and see if it’s the director’s cut or not. Since the set was so cheap, it might just be the first Alien that they bothered to add the DC to. Regarding Weaver, yeah, that’s right, she was in “The Village” wasn’t she…wasn’t that the movie with the blind girl and the “monsters” (Spoiler alert…oh well, too late now. And if you don’t know the ending to the Village by now…)
The Village was a real yawner for me. Interesting ending, tho. The wife swears that she saw the sucker punch coming, but I am not convinced. Rainer, would you be considered an ” Austr-Alien “?? Sorry, I have this weakness for bad puns…
